A new life starts with a new heart and a new look.

Given to give hope.

Getting a vision for a new start begins with the basics: food, shelter, and clothing. Without that, it’s hard to think beyond surviving the next minute, hour, day, or week. My Sister’s Closet helps women of domestic violence or former incarceration, obtain suitable clothing for court appearances, interviews, and other necessary meetings or events in order to take the first step of her new start in confidence with a fresh new look.

It’s private, clean, and safe.

According to the National Coalition of Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) by 2019, 36.1% of Michigan women experience intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner rape, or intimate partner stalking in their lives. Since the pandemic, those numbers have only increased. In a desperate attempt for freedom from this type of abuse, some must leave immediately with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Any upcoming court cases, or job interviews, could be missed opportunities without looking and feeling confident. My Sister’s Closet is a clean safe free closet, shopped by appointment only for women to come and find what they need to look and feel their best to get through one of their hardest times in life.

It’s simple, easy, and free.

In a fight for a new life, it’s hard to stay motivated. Every meeting and task feels like an uphill battle and yet it all needs to be done in order to be really free to start afresh. Shopping at My Sister’s Closet is simple, easy, and free! Clients begin their journey with an agency that specializes in helping victims and survivors. The agency has vouchers for women to come to us for private personal shopping, or to shop online with a private link if they have no way to come in person. We receive the voucher and help the client fill one shopping bag for free. That’s it!
