Delight to Do His Will

"I delight to do Your will, my God; Your Law is within my heart." Psalm 40:8, New American Standard Bible 2020

To those who do not know God, He is Creator, All-Powerful, Almighty. These attributes are accurate and true, yet distant. To those who have committed and surrendered their lives to God, their relationship is more intimate. We call Him Father, Abba, Savior, Deliverer, and Lord. We who have close relationships know His power and love; the distant only see His power.

In my early days of ministry, I traveled leading praise and worship. Many times, when I was sent to do services, I would complain, “I have to go to this church and lead worship this afternoon (eye roll)”. My mentor would always correct me saying, “You get to go and do worship this afternoon. It’s a privilege and an honor.” In those early years, I did not understand the need to correct my thoughts concerning this. Now, it is one of the foundations of my heart. I have the blessed opportunity to love God by loving His people and the world with the gifts He gave to me.

In the life of a disciple, our primary desire is to do the will of the LORD. By love, we choose the Father's will over our own, regardless of outcome or consequence. This is our delight to do so. Jesus said, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." (John 14:15)

May the delight in the will of the LORD be the focal point in your mundane decisions and everyday actions, just as in the major ones. When we surrender to the LORD's will in mundane decisions, we create habits, build character, and establish a reputation as a disciple of Christ. When we are faithful over little, He will give us much.

Prayer

Father, you are Wonderful, Matchless, Mighty, and Lovely. You love me eternally and unconditionally. Your one desire is for a relationship with me so that I may delight in your goodwill. You want the world to know your love through your disciples. Father, may I delight in your will every day and show your life and will to those around me. May I shine the light You give me in dark places to reveal Your love in every place I am.
