God of the Valley

Mountains and valleys

“…Because the Syrians have said, “the Lord is a god of the mountains, but he is not a god of the valleys,” therefore I will give all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

I Kings 20:28 King James Version

The God of the mountain is also the God of the valley.
— MaryAnn LaGrone

The Syrians were at it again. They were planning an attack against Israel, promising a sound defeat because they had a new plan to succeed.  They would attack Israel in the plains, near the city of Aphek.  The Syrians mistakenly believed Israel’s God had no power in the valleys and plains. [Read the entire story in I Kings, 20.]  It took no more power for God to deliver Israel from the Syrians than it did for him to speak the earth in existence. Our God is sovereign, not limited by the mountains or valleys of life.

The challenges we face are no match for our God.  Whatever you are facing, ask God to help you; don’t take matters into your own hands. God desires to be intimately involved in every area of our lives. No task is too great, and no concern is too small.  As the late Rev. Dr. W.L. Patterson said, “God is concerned about the things that concern you.”  Whether you are dealing with heads of great nations or helping a beggar on the street, or searching for a lost pet, declare God’s sovereignty in all situations. Then, ask the Holy Spirit to guide everything you say and do.

Prayer

Father, we love you. We find hope in the truth of this scripture.  Help us look beyond every circumstance and declare you are sovereign. We invite you into our daily decisions of life.  In the name of Jesus, Amen.
